ABOUT OUR VDCA ACADEMY

Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association was born in the year 1963. it was inaugurated by Gen. Sri Nagesh, the then Governor of Andhra Pradesh on 15th August 1963.

Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association as part of promotion of game of Cricket and to unearth the talent at grass root level, started an academy for boys under-13 age groups and junior girls.

The main objective of the academy is to assist the budding players in developing physically, mentally and technically to face the pressures of the game and compete at higher level. The objectives will be achieved by

  1. Providing them with scientific training by qualified fitness trainers to make them physically fit and have endurance & injury free fitness.
  2. Imparting skills of batting, bowling and fielding by latest coaching techniques by qualified coaches assisted by senior players.
  3. Audio – visuals help for correcting the techniques and coming over the deficiencies in the techniques of the players
  4. Monitoring the development of the players physical, mental and technical skills of the players

For the convenience of the boys the city has been divided in to five zones consisting of

  1. City Zone
  2. Port Zone
  3. PM Palem Zone
  4. Gajuwaka Zone
  5. Steelplant Zone

The Academy was inaugurated by Sri V. Seshadri, IAS District Collector Visakhapatnam on 6th December 2012 at ACA-VDCA Stadium, Madhurawada. The nets are being conducted three days in a week and matches are arranged between the zones on Saturdays and Sundays. so that the boys have regular match practice.

The academy is run throughout the year and it will run continuously for years. Qualified coaches are appointed, they are assisted by senior cricketers. Balls and kit is provided by the Association free of cost. Apart from imparting training in batting, bowling and fielding qualified trainers are appointed to give training in fitness. The modern equipment and good facilities are provided to the boys and girls in the Academy.

After three months of zonal camps, 35 to 40 boys are selected from among five zones. Those boys are given intensive training. Depending upon the success of the Zonal Camps in the city, we will tap the talent at rural level in the next phase. We are sure that the majority of the boys from VDCA academy will scale the new heights and will represent the Andhra Cricket Association in various age groups at junior level and Ranji Trophy and India at the international level. Our main aim is to project Visakhapatnam in the international Map.

So far Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association has produced one player at senior level and 10 boys at junior level in international cricket and several players represented South Zone. As of now, majority of the boys from Visakhapatnam District Cricket Association are being selected for Andhra Cricket Association.
